MEDA is a community-based economic development corporation located in the Mission District of San Francisco. Since 1972, MEDA has worked to improve economic and social conditions in the neighborhood by stimulating investment, enhancing the business environment, and creating jobs for area residents. Our Entrepreneur Development Program offers a variety of options geared to support client’s goals to launch, improve or grow their business.

Entrepreneurship Training Program: six training modules designed to develop basic business skills needed to be successful when launching a business. In addition to this training, several topical seminars are offered in specific areas of business, for example: Computer literacy (Basic literacy, word, power point, excel, facebook, web design and others)

One-on-one Technical Consultations: clients can receive assistance in starting or expanding their businesses. Support is available in the areas of business planning, marketing, financial statements, budgets, permit & licensing guidance, commercial lease consultations, and access to capital. A specifically tailored Business program provides support to Home Childcare providers

Access to Capital: assistance is provided to clients in order to be able to increase and secure their options for financing.  Through this program we provide services to establish or improve credit score, and apply for loans through MEDA’s micro loan program or with other financial institutions.

Accelerate San Francisco is a program offered specifically for clients whose business has six or more employees and are looking for support in expanding and growing their business.

Free Tax Preparation: MEDA’s VITA Site Free Tax Preparation Program operates year round out of Plaza Adelante, providing benefits screening, self-employed tax education, and assistance in completing FAFSA and ITN application.

Target Client Profile

MEDA’s free services are available to low and moderate income entrepreneurs who own–or plan to own–a business in San Francisco.  All services are offered in Spanish and English and are geared to educate entrepreneurs in good business practices.
